Cratloe Centre: A haven specially designed for individuals with diverse needs
Extern announces its new service at Cratloe – Cratloe Respite Centre. The launch ceremony, held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, brought together local political representatives, funding partners from HSE and Tusla and community members to celebrate this significant milestone in community-based care.
The Cratloe Respite Centre, operational since September 2023, provides a much-needed respite and support services to individuals with diverse needs. Situated in a serene rural setting near Limerick city, the Centre offers a safe, short-term and nurturing environment for residents.
The new modern facility offers furnished rooms, including two with en-suites, and dedicated spaces such as a sensory room, arts and crafts area, recreational room, fully equipped kitchen, and accessible utility spaces.
“Our focus at Extern is on empowering individuals and families to thrive, and at Cratloe, we firmly believe that each young person should have a voice in shaping their care plan and defining their goals during their short respite.
Extern Director of Services, Deirdre O’Driscoll said, "We are excited to unveil this newly renovated space, designed specifically to meet the diverse needs of individuals in our community. This project represents our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care and support to those who need it most.
“Our focus at Extern is on empowering individuals and families to thrive, and at Cratloe, we firmly believe that each young person should have a voice in shaping their care plan and defining their goals during their short respite.
"We believe in promoting independence and holistic well-being. Our team works closely with families to address specific challenges and enhance their quality of life. The location is not only idyllic but ideal in that it is easily accessible to Limerick city with immediate access to community amenities which supports fostering active engagement and social participation."
