The Janus programme works intensively on a one-to-one basis with young people aged 10-17 years, who are living in the community or within the care system, and whose behaviour is challenging, posing a risk to either themselves or to others.
Extern provides an individually-tailored support programme in response to the needs of these young people to support them to remain at home or at the lowest level within the care system. The project is aimed at improving young people’s social functioning, community inclusion and family relationships.
Janus works at the young person’s pace to build upon their personal attributes and undeveloped potential. The project operates within an interagency model of work, connecting interventions within a holistic model inclusive of school and local community supports, making the young person aware of this approach.
Staff liaise closely with primary care-givers and involve them in the contract setting and also utilise the strengths of primary carers (and, where appropriate, extended carers) to build a package of support for the young person.
