The Shared Island Creative Arts Project is part of the Shared Island Creative Youth Partnerships scheme, as part of the Shared Island dimension of the Creative Ireland Programme 2023-2027. This initiative, supported by the Irish Government’s Shared Island Initiative, aims to foster engagement across all communities and traditions to build consensus around a shared future.
About the Project
The Shared Island Creative Arts Project is a transformative theatre initiative that engages 20 young people aged 16-24 from Greater Belfast, Drogheda, and Dublin. These participants, who have multiple and complex needs, are provided with a safe and supportive environment to express themselves and share their stories.
A central component of the project is the use of Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. This innovative approach allows participants to explore and communicate their experiences in a creative and meaningful way, empowering them to reflect on their personal experiences and societal issues through performance.
