Mentoring Support Programme for Children Looked After

Mentoring Support for Children Looked After is a community-based programme supporting young people aged between 10-17 who are ‘looked after’ to develop skills, improve relationships and maximise potential.

Extern's Mentoring Support for Children Looked After offers tailored mentoring to young individuals in care placements.

Our dedicated staff establish consistent one-to-one relationships over six months, providing guidance and support to those in residential, kinship, or foster care settings.

The team provides support to 100 looked after children each year.

Our programme aims to empower young individuals by boosting their resilience and skills. Mentors offer emotional and practical support while focusing on life and social skills development.

Through personalised guidance, we strive to equip young people with the confidence to navigate their circumstances and create a brighter future.

Criteria for referral

  • Young person between the age of 10-17
  • Young person residing in a care placement (kinship/fostering/residential) and/or at home under the supervision of social services
  • Young person who has a current social worker
