The Cavan Traveller Primary Health Care team completed a six
week ‘Say Yes to Mental Health Awareness’ Programme

The programme was funded by the Department of Education.

Suicide rates in the Traveller community is 7 times higher than the general population and Travellers do not engage with services until it is too late.
Traveller mental health is one of the key targets in the All Ireland Traveller Health Study (2010) and it is widely acknowledged that Travellers need a lot support.

The Electrical training department which opened in October 2015 is already achieving positive outcomes for its students. Amir Eltom is one of the first students to complete his City & Guilds Level 1 in Electrical installations qualification. He has also just been successful in gaining full-time employment. Amir was supported by his Skills Tutor to gain his qualification and the Development Team who supported him in his search for employment.

Extern, the leading social justice Charity has responded to the death of another person from homelessness in Belfast over the weekend. The Charity provides a homeless support service, which is funded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, in conjunction with Supporting People and the Belfast Trust. A dedicated social work outreach team provides specialist assessment and intensive support to those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness and who have additional needs relating to mental and physical health, substance use, learning disability, offending, families and asylum.
