IFSS EXTERN

A life-changing service, which works with hundreds of the most disadvantaged families in Belfast each year, has been told it must close on 31 March.
Belfast’s Intensive Family Support Service (IFSS), is operated by Extern, the leading social justice charity. 47 staff members will be made redundant.

Local members of Extern’s Cavan Traveller Primary Health Care Project were special guests of Minister Heather Humphreys at Dáil Éireann this week, as Taoiseach Enda Kenny made a statement recognising the Irish Travelling community as an ethnic minority for the first time.

As the leading social justice charity on the island of Ireland, Extern, supported by the HSE, created the Traveller Primary Health Care Project in Moynehall, Cavan, to improve the health outcomes of Travellers in the Cavan and Monaghan areas.

Extern, the leading social justice charity launches a new Garda Youth Diversion Project (GYDP) in Naas, County Kildare.

The Project is aiming to help children move away from behaving in a way that might get them, or their friends, into trouble with the law. It is also helping children develop their sense of community, and their social skills, through different activities.

Extern Group, Extern Northern Ireland, Extern Ireland and Extern Supporting Communities seek to appoint new Directors to their respective Boards. Extern is the trusted, forward-looking charity that changes people’s lives, by meeting them at their point of need. Extern brings solutions and delivers quality services – reconnecting people with society, building better communities for us all.

Extern have been working in partnership for the past year with the Northern Trust to develop 18 staff within the homelessness and addictions services as ‘Heartstart’ instructors. This means they can provide the Basic Life Support training within our Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Administration courses. Our Heartstart scheme is housed within the Northern Trust’s scheme with clinical governance provided by them.
