Extern News

In a welcome Christmas boost for people who are homeless, Platinum Financial Planning Ltd in Belfast have donated £500 to Extern Homes. The transformational scheme is a first for Northern Ireland, with the leading social justice charity Extern purchasing houses to create homes for people who are homeless. Tenants are also provided with wraparound support and access to training and employment opportunities. Anyone interested in helping Extern move more people from homelessness to homes can donate, or find out more information, at www.extern.org

Kind-hearted construction workers from developer McAleer and Rushe have given two local charities a welcome boost ahead of the Christmas holidays. Extern’s Homeless Support Team and PVN Homeless Drop-In Centre have each received a cheque for £1,000 from the firm, following a Christmas raffle in support of both charities. The raffle was organised by workers on the McClintock/Brunswick Street site in Belfast, which will eventually be home to new student accommodation and a hotel.

Children living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of abuse and neglect are to benefit from a new research project between Extern, the leading social justice charity, and Queen’s University Belfast.

Queen’s has received £264,000 from the NSPCC and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to deliver the project.

As Christmas approaches, at least ten individuals or families who are currently homeless in Belfast, can look forward to being in a home of their own in the New Year, as a result of a transformational new housing project being launched today by Extern, the leading social justice charity.

Patrick Donovan T.D. Minister of State for Tourism and Sport visited Extern’s Limerick Office today (Friday, 11 November), to hear more about the organisation’s innovative Jumping Hurdles Horse Project, which was recently awarded £30K from the national Coca Cola Thank You Fund. The largest recipient of the naitonal fund, the Project is using young people’s love of horses in Limerick City to increase their employment chances, and to counter the culture of criminality in disadvantaged areas.
