Crumlin Road 'Gaolhouse rocks' to mark 40th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley in aid of Extern

6 August, 2017

The walls of Crumlin Road ‘Gaolhouse’ in Belfast, will be shaking on Friday, 25th August, when the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club Northern Ireland hosts a special colour screening of Jailhouse Rock, followed by a video disco. The Fan Club have organised the event in aid of leading local social justice charity, Extern.

Marking the 40th anniversary of The King’s death, on August 16, 1977, the screening also marks 60 years since the film Jailhouse Rock first hit cinema screens. The dance sequence in the film’s opening scenes is often cited as Presley's greatest moment on screen, and organisers are calling on people to grab their winklepickers, dress to impress, and enjoy a great night of rock ‘n’ roll.

Doors open at Crumlin Road Gaol at 7.15pm, with the screening of Jailhouse Rock starting at 8pm. This will be followed by a video disco, auction and prize ballot.

Tickets are available from the Belfast Welcome Centre (opposite City Hall, Belfast) costing £15, with proceeds going to Extern. Or they are also available online via Visit Belfast or via the following link

The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club Northern Ireland is affiliated with Graceland, which means raising money for charity on an annual basis, following in Elvis’ footsteps, who each year, wrote 100 cheques every Christmas for $1,000 to different charitable bodies and undertook many more charitable gestures. His Aloha From Hawaii satellite concert in 1973 in aid of the Kui Lee Cancer Fund was seen by more people worldwide than watched the first moon landing.

Extern is the leading social justice charity across the island of Ireland, providing a wide range of services to families and individuals in need of support. It works with people dealing with issues including homelessness, suicide, addiction, social exclusion, offending and family problems. Further information on Extern is available online at
