Refugee Shoebox appeal

Imagine a vulnerable refugee waking up on Christmas morning far from home and without a present to open.

Unfortunately this could be the reality for many Syrian individuals and families who have arrived, and will be arriving, under the UK Vulnerable Person’s Relocation scheme this Christmas.

The difference you can make

The tragedy in Syria continues to grow, affecting millions of people and for many young Syrian children, all they have known is war.

Every year Extern welcomes Syrian refugees and we support them to begin to build a new future far from their home.

Many come to our services with few personal possessions, and so this Christmas, we'd like to ask you to be part of something special and join in our shoebox appeal for refugee families.

How can I help?

We’re looking for individuals, companies and groups to help us brighten Christmas this year, by buying Christmas gifts for the refugee families and children supported by our services across Northern Ireland.

How does it work?

When you’re doing your Christmas shopping, consider choosing a gift for a refugee arriving in Northern Ireland to donate to our Gift Appeal.

  1. Find an old shoebox
  2. Wrap it with Christmas paper
Please wrap the box and lid separately
  3. Attach a label
Attach a label, marking clearly if your gift is for a boy, girl or adult. Select an age category 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14 etc and attach a label to the top of your shoebox donating this.
  4. Fill with gifts
Fill your shoebox with a selection of fun toys, hygiene items and school supplies

Deliver to us

Please drop off your shoebox to Hydepark House, 3 McKinney Road, Mallusk, Co. Antrim between the 1st and Friday 14th December or to:

  • Extern's office at 8-14 Bishop Street, Derry/Londonderry, BT48 6PW
  • Roscor Youth Village, Bolustymore, Shore Road, Belleek, Co. Fermanagh BT93 3BS

Alternatively, if your workplace or community group would like to do a bulk shoebox donation, please contact us on +44 (0)28 90 840555 and we will arrange collection from you.
