Derek McCabe

Derek McCabe

Chair of Extern Group, Extern Supporting Communities & Extern Ireland & Extern Northern Ireland Director

Derek is from Co Cavan and is a Civil Engineering graduate from Bolton St. College. He is a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland, the Institute of Directors (Ireland) and MD of Sheelin & McCabe Planning Services Ltd, which provides a residential and commercial design and planning practice in Counties Cavan, Meath and Westmeath.

Derek has extensive knowledge and experience in building design, building/planning regulations, and the wider planning administrative system that operates in Ireland. He is a Peace Commissioner and was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as a Commissioner for Oaths in 2001.

He is also Director of CO2 Footprint Ltd and project manages the website www.CO2.ie that provides CO2 footprint reduction advice to the business sector and provides a Green Directory and an e-commerce booking engine for building energy ratings nationwide.

Derek is a founding member and director of Cavan Monaghan Rural Development Co-op Society Ltd, which has successfully delivered three European Leader programmes, a number of Peace I & Peace II programmes and a Rural Social Scheme in Cavan and Monaghan since 1991.

In his capacity as director he has served as Secretary, and Vice Chairperson of the organisation and is the current Chairperson of the organisation and has gained extensive experience on the workings of local government, local democracy, project evaluation, State and European Grant Aid procedures and governing regulations.

He was previously appointed by the Minister for Agriculture in Northern Ireland to serve as a member of the Review of Decisions Panel. Derek has farming and forestry interests and is a Nuffield Scholar. He is also Chairman and director of Nuffield Ireland.

Andrew McCloskey

Andrew is a business professional with more than 20 years’ experience in global companies. After reading Economics and Computing at Queens University Andrew joined Nortel Networks, where he worked in the procurement, IT, and planning departments specialising in the use of technologies to enhance business performance. A range of international assignments in performance management, contract assurance and supply chain operations followed a relocation to Canada. Andrew also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ulster and a Law Degree from the Open University. He is currently employed by Moy Park in Craigavon and is married with two children.

Pastor Stephen Reyolds

Extern Supporting Communities Company Secretary/Director

Stephen Reynolds is the Senior Pastor at Church of God Shankill having been in full-time ministry since 2005 after graduation from Belfast Bible College. As a Trustee of a number of churches in Ireland he is responsible for policy development, training, AccessNI checks and dealing with safeguarding issues.

Stephen was born, brought up and still lives in the Greater Shankill Area and has been involved in community work there for 16 years. He has worked with uniformed and informal youth organisations, senior citizens’ projects and family support work.

He currently sits on the North Belfast Area Project Steering Group, the Inter-Faith Child Protection Group, the Greater Shankill Suicide Response Group, and the Greater Shankill Family Support Hub.
He has supported the SAFE Together (families bereaved by suicide) project for the past 5 years by offering pastoral care, counselling and encouragement.

Stephen is Chairman of Conway Youth Centre which provides programmes and opportunities for the people of the Greater Shankill area.

Stephen was Chair of FASA from November 2015 to March 2016 and sat on the HR and Finance Sub-Committees since January 2012.

Stephen has ILM Level 5 training in Leadership and Management and is a qualified Counsellor and is currently completing a BSc in Psychology with Counselling.

Ian McAvoy

Extern Northern Ireland & Supporting Communities Director

Ian lives in Belfast and was educated at MCB and London University. After graduating in economics Ian studied accountancy. After a spell in practice, he became the Finance Director of a leading Irish Brand and was promoted to Chief Executive holding that position for 16 years. He has much expertise in strategic planning, transformation, finance and marketing.
Ian was Chair of PlayBoard, Vice Chair of Sport NI, Director of Sport NI, he is presently a Director of Canoe NI.
He has a keen interest in rugby and football, initially as a player and now as an administrator and is the holds the positon of Chairman of rugby at Queen University, Belfast.
He is married to Lynne with three grown up children.
